My Favorite Bone Broth

Bone Broth

I first learned about bone broth when I was a student in Chinese Medicine school.  Given the taxing and depleting nature of graduate school (enormous amounts of reading, long lectures, flash cards, soooo many flash cards, long study sessions, and stress), I found I wasn’t sleeping well.

I felt like I had brain fog often, and my skin and hair were dull and dry.  I decided to start making bone broth to see if it would at least help my skin, and it did.  It noticeably helped my skin and hair, and over time, I felt like it helped me sleep better and have a more clear thinking.  

So here is all you need to make your own delicious bone broth to support your skin, hair and joint health, reduce inflammation, and help you sleep.


  • 4 lbs of beef bones (ox tail, short ribs, knuckle bones cut in half) or bones from a whole chicken
  •   2 carrots
  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  •   3 celery stalks
  •   2 bay leaves
  • 2 Tablespoons pepper corns
  • 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar



  1. Put all the above ingredients into a crock pot, add water until it covers all ingredients.
  2. Cook on high for at least 15 hours.
  3. To make the bone broth more rich, you can add a couple sliced pigs feet.  This will make the broth more gelatinous and adds the benefit of collagen which benefits the skin and the joints.
  4. Strain out the ingredients and pour broth into tall mason jars and refrigerate. 

Use the broth to soups or stews, in your favorite recipe that calls for broth (my favorite is Chicken Paprikash), add it to stir fry, or drink 1/4 cup daily and watch your skin, hair and nails improve.
